Looking at 2018

Hello, everyone, and welcome to 2018 at Miriam Joy Reads. I… realise it’s the tenth of January now. But hey, it’s in the spirit of the blog to be really, really behind with everything. In my defence, I’d originally planned to write a post like this for the first, then missed my opportunity, and then I was in Scotland without internet.

Anyway. It’s a new year, and one of my goals for 2018 is to try and be slightly more consistent about book blogging. I don’t think I’ll ever fully stay on schedule, especially not while I’m still at uni, but I’d like to be slightly better about it. I’m trying to read ARCs in a more timely manner, but I have a bit of a backlog, so it could be a while before I’m fully on top of all the latest releases and whatnot.

I’m also going to go back to reviewing a few older books too, when I get the chance, just because I feel like that’s sometimes just as useful.

But mostly my goal is to actually write reviews for things on Goodreads immediately after finishing them, so that when I come to write them up for this blog, I haven’t forgotten literally everything about the book. Since that happens… a lot.

I also want to try and remember to include Amazon affiliate links at the bottom of posts. I set up an affiliate account months ago, but have yet to earn anything from referrals because 95% of the time I forget that it exists. If, however, my review prompts you to buy a book, then doing it via that link means I get a tiny tiny percentage of the sale, which might one day add up into enough for Amazon to actually pay me for it 😉

The current plan is that I’ll post reviews on Mondays and Fridays at 9am. I’m currently leaving Wednesdays free, because I don’t think I’m quite up to writing three reviews a week at the moment — I’m too behind to manage that. However, I might periodically use Wednesdays for extra posts (like this one), book tags, announcements, that kind of thing.

You can also find my regular (by which I mean ‘usual’ rather than ‘regularly scheduled’) blog posts over at Miriam Joy Writes, as ever, and all my poetry collections are available on the ‘Books‘ page there, if you ever feel in the mood to buy some poetry.

Let’s hope 2018 is a consistent one with many reviews and good books! *raises glass*

Yeah, I feel that! I’m trying to strike a balance between “I don’t want this to feel like a chore” and “if I don’t commit to this I won’t actually do it”, you know? Plus I have never done anything casually in my life, ever.
